Our Culture and Motivation

"We measure our success, not in terms of the number of manuscripts published, or funds raised, or clinical trials completed, but rather in terms of the lives we can positively impact with our technology."

~ Ed Damiano, CEO

Our journey so far...

For us, it's personal...

Many on our team live with and actively manage type 1 diabetes (T1D) on a day-to-day basis. Some of our team members have T1D, others have family members, including children, who have T1D. David Damiano, Max Raskin, and Marissa Hitchcock, children of three of the board members of Beta Bionics, were diagnosed at the ages of 11 months, 7 years and 2 years respectively. Quite independently, but inevitably, early into their diagnoses they all realized that T1D management is relentless, exhausting, and unforgiving. As parents of kids with T1D, this project has become entirely a labor of love. Our small team at Beta Bionics is deeply motivated to bring the iLet® to fruition for the entire T1D community – a community to which we all belong. Beyond that, the team has learned of other excessively burdensome conditions that the iLet may assist. Some individuals live with rare conditions of chronic hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels), such as congenital hyperinsulinism and insulinoma syndrome. Our glucagon system may prove helpful for such conditions.

I love working at a company with such a passion for improving the lives of people with insulin-dependent diabetes and other glycemic disorders. That passion starts at the very top of our organization and filters down to every person. Additionally, it is a company that is not afraid to do things differently and is not shackled to the current sub-optimal methods of treating T1D. ~ Mike Rosinko
